There should be no tank walls, agitators, or other objects in the path of the soundwaves.

Ultrasonic transmitters are often used to measure water, wastewater, chemicals, and oil but won’t work on vapors, foam, and other media that’s difficult to measure. The included fob allows you to connect your transmitter to your computer, where you'll download software that guides you through the setup process to make sure you get accurate readings. Ultrasonic transmitters with a button interface can be set up and calibrated without the fob. Radar transmitters are best for liquids that are tricky to measure because they work even if there’s condensation, foam, or other difficult conditions. They also measure the level of liquids with solids and small solids. There’s an app you can use to set up your transmitter and calibrate it for your system.

Measure the distance to objects and the level of liquids and materials despite size, shape, or surface finish, and send that information to other parts of your system. Unlike photoelectric switches, which use light to detect objects, these transmitters emit high-frequency sound waves that target small spots, so the surface and structure of your object won’t affect results. This makes them great for materials with uneven surfaces, such as granules and powder. They also sense objects in dirty and wet places, but they don’t work well where there’s wind, since it could disrupt their sound waves. All transmitters have an analog output, which means they continuously send measurements to monitor status and manage components in your system. Some also have a digital output that signals your controller to turn components on or off whenever an object is detected or a set level is reached. Detect water level with infrared light to avoid false switch activation caused by vibration in your tank. Also known as optical switches, these sense the level by reflecting light into a receiver that sends an output current to activate an alarm or control circuit. They are sensitive to light and should be shielded or used in enclosed tanks. Mount them horizontally or vertically.

SPST-NO switches activate when the tip is submerged in liquid and light stops reflecting into the receiver.

SPST-NC switches activate when the tip is exposed to air and light reflects into the receiver.

Detect when oil rises on water, foam forms on beer, and tanks empty, triggering pumps and valves in food and sanitary lines. These switches are 3-A and European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group (EHEDG) certified since they’re easy to keep clean. Highly polished, they prevent bacteria from growing. They also stand up to hot spraying water, chemicals, and cleaners common to food plants, thanks to their PEEK probe, stainless steel body, BSPP threads, and IP ratings. Their IP67 rating also means they won’t fail if under water temporarily.

To connect to automated systems and remote displays, these switches work with IO Link and 4-20 mA analog output, making them good for hard-to-reach areas. Program the colors on the LED indicator to tell you what the switch is sensing.

Keep an eye on leaks, overflow, and temperature changes near your equipment, even when you’re offsite. These detectors connect to your Wi-Fi to send alerts about moisture, temperature, and humidity to your smartphone or tablet. Place them near tanks and tubs to watch for overflow, or near sump pumps and pipe lines to monitor temperatures and prevent frozen pipes. When water touches one of the sensors on the detector, a buzzer also goes off, alerting anyone nearby. Rated IP44, these detectors are protected from objects larger than 1mm, such as wires, and from water splashing in any direction.

Download an app onto your smart device to program temperature and humidity ranges and set up alerts. You can also create reports that show changes in temperature and humidity over time.

To extend the area they monitor, these detectors come with a detachable cable sensor that senses moisture along its entire surface.
