Potentiometers

Vary electrical flow to control speed, volume, and light intensity. The number of turns affects the resolution—the higher the number, the better the control. Also known as variable output switches. A knob is required (not included).
Style A potentiometers are also known as gangable potentiometers. They can be linked to each other, so you can control multiple potentiometers from a single source.
IP65 rated switches are protected against washdowns.
Switches with ball bearings have a smoother rotation and a longer service life than other potentiometers.

Digital Potentiometers
More precise than analog potentiometers, these have a three-digit display that is easy to read. Also known as variable output switches, they vary electrical flow to control speed, volume, and light intensity.
Harsh Environment Potentiometers

Rated NEMA 13, these potentiometers protect against debris and splashing oil and coolant. Also known as variable output switches, they vary electrical flow to control speed, volume, and light intensity.
NEMA 4X rated potentiometers withstand weather, washdowns, and corrosion.
NEMA 6 potentiometers seal out water from temporary submersion as well as weather and washdowns.

Linear Motion Potentiometers

Pair these potentiometers with a controller to monitor the position of moving parts or send instructions to an electrical system. They have a rod that slides back and forth against an internal resistor, which increases or decreases the voltage flowing out to your controller. To monitor the position of a moving part, such as a robotic component, connect it to the rod. As the part moves, it pushes the rod back and forth, which allows the controller to observe and report the part’s exact position. To use these potentiometers as part of a controls system, connect them to a volume slider or other manual control. When you move the slider, the controller converts its position into instructions for electrical equipment, such as adjusting volume levels. These potentiometers are also called variable output switches.

Multi-Way Light Dimmers

Often used in large, open workspaces, these switches can be wired on opposite ends of the room to control the brightness of lights on the same circuit. They're also known as three-way switches and work in pairs to control lights from two different locations. The actuator to turn lights on and off is separate from the dimmer to maintain a desired lighting level. They fit standard wall plates (not included).

Wall-Mount Motion-Sensing Light Controls
Also known as occupancy sensors, these controls turn lights on when movement is detected and off when an area is empty. They fit standard wall plates. All have a manual time delay that will turn lights off after a set amount of inactivity.
Dimming light controls adjust the light’s brightness.
Controls with infrared sensors detect changes in heat and require a direct view of the occupants. Controls with infrared/ultrasonic sensors detect changes in heat as well as motion to minimize false activations. You can set them to use one or both detection methods to activate and keep lights on.
Controls with an automatic time delay can turn lights off automatically based on usage patterns.
For light controls with 24V DC input voltage, you'll need a power controller to switch a 120- or 277-volt AC lighting circuit. Power controllers have a relay that switches a maximum 20-amp load.

Smart Wall-Mount Motion-Sensing Light Dimmers

Control the brightness of lights from your smartphone. Using a Bluetooth-connected app on your phone or tablet, you can schedule when lights turn on, adjust their brightness levels, and set their movement sensitivity. Also known as occupancy sensors, these dimmers turn lights on when motion is detected and off when people are away. You can override the motion sensor function with a tap on the app to manually switch or dim lights. They fit in standard wall plates.
Dimmers with infrared sensors detect changes in heat sources and require a direct view of people occupying the space to activate.
Dimmers with infrared/ultrasonic sensors minimize false activation by detecting changes in heat sources and motion. They can be set so that only one or both detection methods are required to activate and hold lights on.
For light controls with DC input voltage, you'll need a power controller to switch a 120V or 277V AC lighting circuit. Power controllers have a relay that switches a maximum 20-amp load.

Smart Ceiling-Mount Motion-Sensing Light Controls
Fine-tune motion-sensing light controls from your smartphone or tablet. Mounting on the ceiling gives these light controls a clearer view of the room than wall-mount sensors, so they detect motion over a larger area. They connect to a free downloadable app using Bluetooth. Use the app to adjust the amount of time lights stay on after people leave, set schedules, or override the sensor so lights are always on. Also known as occupancy sensors, they turn lights on when they sense movement and off after people leave.
Controls with infrared sensors detect changes in heat sources and need a direct view of people.
Controls with infrared/ultrasonic sensors have two detection methods to minimize false activation: infrared to sense heat sources and ultrasonic to sense motion. Use the app to adjust whether both or just one of these triggers will switch the lights.
Controls with a dimmer let you adjust the brightness of your lights.
Add companion switches to control lights manually without having to wire them directly into the light circuit. Attach them to any interior wall or outlet box and pair them wirelessly on the app.

Fixture-Mount Motion-Sensing Light Controls
Detect motion near your light fixture to turn lights on and off. Compared to switch-mount motion controls that detect from a single wall, these controls have a better view of the entire space since they sense motion from above. Also known as occupancy sensors, these controls have an infrared sensor that activates when it detects a change in heat. To work properly, they need an unobstructed view of your space. All have a time delay to turn lights off after a set time. Rated IP65, these controls are protected from washdowns.
These light controls monitor motion in a full circle for coverage in all directions. Those that cover 7,690 sq. ft. have lenses that can be swapped out to limit where they sense. Half-circle sensing lenses are best for concentrating coverage to a certain part of a room, such as a workstation or an entrance. Narrow sensing lenses are best for the end of aisles in spaces with high ceilings like those in warehouses and factories.

Varistors

Protect circuits from electrical spikes and surges. You’ll often find these varistors in surge protectors for programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and sensors. Also known as voltage-dependent resistors (VDRs), they change their response based on the voltage. When the voltage is high, their resistance drops to route excess current away from the primary flow. But when voltage is low, their resistance increases, sending current through the primary circuit flow instead of the varistor.

Resistance Boxes

Calibrate, test, and troubleshoot a circuit without having to replace individual resistors. These boxes, also known as resistance decade boxes, can apply different resistances to reduce the current in your circuit. For example, they can help calibrate a temperature-sensing circuit for use with an RTD. Adjust the resistance to match different temperature points on your RTD, then see if your circuit reads the correct temperature.
The switches are additive, so you can create any resistance, in whole ohm increments, up to 11,111,110 ohms.
Boxes with a NIST calibration certificate have passed a test for accuracy.
