Extended-Reach Slide-Bolt Latches
Also known as cane bolts, these latches have the added height that's needed to bridge large vertical gaps. Install them at the top or bottom of swinging doors and gates to hold them in an open or closed position. They are reversible for right- and left-hand mounting.
Mount bolts without a strike plate by drilling a hole to secure the bolt. Use bolts with a C bracket as a template to drill a hole.

Spring-Loaded Slide-Bolt Latches
Bolts are spring-loaded to stay latched until you activate the pull. All latches are reversible for right- and left-hand mounting.
Latches with hook pull have bolts that can be rotated 180°, so they can be used with both push and pull doors. Choose those with an offset bolt to accommodate door offset, which is the space between the front of a door and the frame.

Self-Aligning Slide-Bolt Latches
The strike has angled ends, so these latches can accept their bolt even when doors become misaligned. All latches are reversible for right- and left-hand mounting.
Brass- and zinc-plated steel latches should be used in mostly dry environments. The plating offers temporary rust protection, but once it wears away the steel will rust.

Choose this keyed alike lock if you need several that open with the same key. Side, top, and bottom latching points secure large, heavy doors that are subject to strenuous use, such as those on trucks and large access doors. The lock has two handles; an outside handle with a spindle that mounts through the door and an inside safety-release handle that opens the latch even if the outside handle is locked. It has a straight cam for side latching. For top and bottom latching, rods connect the top and bottom slide bolts. Use a hacksaw to cut rods and spindle to size. Select the turn direction of the lock when mounting the cam.
