Pin- and ring-and-hole style socket retainers (also called positive locking) provide a more secure hold than ring-style retainers.

Pin-style retainer has a pin that fits into a matching hole in the socket.Ring-and-hole-style retainer requires a retaining ring (included).

Ring-style socket retainer allows quick socket changes—pull the socket off the retainer and push on another one.
