Porous Stainless Steel Discs
Also known as sintered filters and frits, these discs have tiny holes that trap very small particles. Discs are often used in laboratories and gas-bubbling applications (sparging). They’re made of 316L stainless steel for excellent corrosion and abrasion resistance.
Select discs based on the size of the particles you wish to remove. For example, the particle size of talcum is about 10 microns. View more information on particle size in microns.

Mufflers
Use these mufflers with air-powered tools, valves, and cylinders to reduce noise and filter exhaust fumes.
Style B is knurled for easy gripping.
Styles C, K, and M have a slotted drive for installation with a screwdriver.
Styles D and E have a rubber O-ring for extra protection against leaks.
Styles P, Q, and R have a tube stem that slides into tube fittings and collets to decrease noise from manifolds.
Style S has a barbed fitting that slides into soft tubing, such as PVC, latex rubber, and silicone.
Brass, bronze, and copper mufflers offer good corrosion resistance.
316 stainless steel mufflers offer excellent corrosion resistance.
Nylon mufflers resist corrosion and will not deteriorate when exposed to oil.
Polypropylene and polyethylene mufflers offer good corrosion and abrasion resistance. Polyethylene also works well in oily conditions.

Flow-Control Mufflers
Adjust the flow by turning the screw. Use these mufflers with air-powered tools and cylinders to reduce noise and filter exhaust fumes.
For mufflers with an external hex drive, twist the screw and then tighten the hex nut with a wrench to secure. These mufflers are more secure than those with a thumb screw.
For mufflers with a thumb screw, twist the screw and friction secures them in place—no need to use a wrench. Often used in valve exhaust ports, these mufflers are not as secure as those with a nut.
Brass, bronze, and nylon mufflers offer good corrosion resistance.
Stainless steel mufflers offer excellent corrosion resistance.

Lightweight Aluminum Foam

Air is injected into the casting of this aluminum to reduce weight and create a crater-like appearance. These foam sheets are often used for sound insulation and architectural facades. Carbide- or diamond-tipped blades are required for machining. Diamond-tipped blades will cut this material more easily and not wear down as quickly as carbide-tipped blades.
Small-cell foam is highly dense and stiff, so it’s ideal for building high-performance acoustic panels and sturdy decorative elements with a fine, detailed texture. It’s one-sixth the weight of solid aluminum.
Large-cell foam is lightweight due to its low density. It’s one-third the weight of small-cell foam and about 5% the weight of solid aluminum. Since it allows some light through, you can use it to build architectural light diffusers. This foam has the appearance of an aluminum sponge.

Porous Mold-Quality Metapor Aluminum

Create molds for vacuum-forming and thermoforming applications. Metapor aluminum is porous to let air and moisture escape, which prevents bubbles and blemishes. These sheets must be milled to expose the pores; average pore diameter is 0.0006” with a total porosity of 15%.
