Choosing an Electrical Switch

Corrosion-Resistant Washdown Pendant Switches

Control cranes and other mobile machinery in dirty, outdoor, and wet environments without damaging your switch. The plastic housing is rated NEMA 4X to protect the switch interior from dust, sprayed water, and ice. They are also rated NEMA 12 for keeping out oil and other liquid drips. All of these switches can be wired to prevent two buttons from operating at the same time.

Two-speed switches have staged contacts. For slow speed, press the button halfway down to close the first contact. For high speed, push it all the way to close the second contact.

Use labels to replace worn stickers or change the function of a button. Packs include 28 commonly used functions, such as up, down, start, and stop.

Easy-Grip Pendant Switches

With a slim shape, these switches fit comfortably in your hand. Use them with mobile machinery such as cranes, hoists, and trolleys.

Style C can be wired to prevent both buttons from operating simultaneously.

Two-speed switches have staged contacts. When you push the button, it will first actuate the slow speed. Continue to push for the additional speed to be actuated.

Switches with mechanical interlock prevent both buttons from operating simultaneously.

NEMA 4X rated switches protect against corrosion.

Wireless Pendant Switches

Operate equipment from up to 330 feet away—these switches include a transmitter and a receiver that connects to equipment. Use up to 45 wireless switches in the same area. They're rated IP65 for protection from washdowns.

Switches and replacement transmitters that cannot be sold to Canada are restricted by product labeling requirements.

Safety Guard

Add these switches to your abrasive blasting hose to prevent it from spraying if the operator loses control. Also known as deadman switches, they prevent injuries and reduce wasted material by springing back to the off position when the operator lets go. All are for use with blasting systems that allow remote control blasting. Attach to your hose with hose clamps.

Electric—These switches send an electric signal to the control panel on the blaster to stop the spray. Because the signal is electric, these switches respond quickly even when your hose is long. They're recommended for hose that's over 100-ft. long and required by OSHA standards for hose that's over 200-ft. long. Switches with handle actuators have a large surface area, so you still have leverage when squeezing the switch in your palm, even when wearing bulky gloves. Switches with toggle actuators are smaller and lighter than switches with handle actuators, so they're less tiring on longer jobs. They may be harder to use with bulky gloves than handle actuators, however. Press and hold the toggle with your thumb.

Air Powered—These switches send an air signal to the inlet and outlet valves on the blaster to stop the spray. Because the signal can be delayed for longer hose lengths, these switches are not recommended for hose that's over 100-ft. long. They have a long, handle actuator that you can squeeze in your palm, even when wearing bulky gloves.

Safety Guards for Electric Toggle Switches—To reduce fatigue on especially long jobs without compromising safety, add one of these safety guards to your toggle switch. If you drop the switch, the chain pulls the guard out from under the toggle, and the hose turns off.
