About Padlocks

Weather- and Cut-Resistant Padlocks
The partially concealed shackle on these padlocks means more security for your outdoor equipment and gates than a traditional padlock. Since most of the shackle is covered, it's difficult to access and cut. For durability outdoors, they’re made from materials that resist corrosion from rain and snow.
These padlocks have a pin-tumbler key locking mechanism, which is the most difficult locking mechanism to pick. The more pins the lock has, the harder it is to force open. Choose these padlocks if you need locks that each open with a different key. All have random key numbers.
Style C padlocks have a dual-locking shackle, so they prevent attempts to force them open from prying, shimming, or tapping because both ends of the shackle lock inside the body.
Steel-body locks are stronger and hold up better against break-in attempts than brass-body locks. They are also covered in plastic to prevent them from scuffing or denting nearby surfaces.
Hardened boron alloy shackles are the hardest and most cut-resistant shackle material. They also hold up against corrosion better than hardened steel shackles.
Padlocks with a keyhole cover keep out water and debris to protect the cylinder from freezing, corroding, and jamming.

High-Security Weather-Resistant Padlocks
Keyhole
Cover
Lock outdoor storage containers, perimeter gates, and valuable equipment with peace of mind. The chrome-plated body on these padlocks resists corrosion from rain and snow. Rated UL 437 or EN 12320, they’ve passed a test to fend off break-ins from lockpicking, hammering, cutting, and more, making them some of the most secure padlocks we offer. If someone tries drilling them, an internal plate blocks the drill bit from penetrating the cylinder. Both ends of the shackle lock inside the body to make it difficult to force them open from prying or shimming. For extra security, these padlocks are keyed differently, so the same key can’t be used with multiple locks.
Brass-body locks have excellent corrosion resistance, but they’re not as strong as steel-body locks. Hardened steel-body locks are strong, and they’re less likely to deform from break-in attempts than brass-body locks. To keep the locking mechanism from freezing, corroding, or jamming from water and debris, they come with a tethered metal cap to cover the key cylinder.
Hardened boron alloy shackles are made of the hardest and most cut-resistant shackle material. They resist corrosion better than hardened steel shackles.
EN 12320 designates levels of security for padlocks on a scale of 1 to 6. The higher the rating, the harder it is and the longer it takes to break into or damage the padlock. Padlocks are tested against attacks such as powerful blows, cutting, drilling, pulling, and twisting.

Choose-a-Color Lockout Padlocks
Eye catching and visually distinct from typical padlocks, these padlocks come in a variety of colors that are useful for lockout identification practices. Assign a color to individual workers or departments and use these locks with cables and other lockout devices to prevent workers from operating equipment during maintenance or repair. This helps you comply with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 procedures. These locks each open with a different key and all have random key numbers.
All have pin-tumbler key locking mechanisms, which are the most difficult locking mechanisms to pick. When choosing between padlocks with four or five pins, the lock with five pins is harder to pick.
Style A locks have an aluminum body that resists corrosion better than locks with a steel body but are not as strong. Their shackles are either aluminum or boron alloy, both of which resist corrosion better than hardened steel shackles. Locks with a boron alloy shackle have the hardest and most cut resistant shackle material.

Extra-Clearance Choose-a-Color Lockout Padlocks
With a tall shackle and a palette of colors to pick from, these locks are easy to spot around large hasps or thick chains. Assign a color to individuals or departments and use them with lockout devices to prevent people from using equipment during maintenance or repair. This helps you comply with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 safety procedures.
All have a pin-tumbler key locking mechanism, which is the most difficult locking mechanism to pick. The more pins a lock has, the harder it is to pick. Each opens with a different key, and all have random key numbers.
Style B locks have an aluminum body that resists corrosion better than locks with a steel body, but it’s not as strong. A plated shackle also makes them more reliable in harsh environments. Locks with a chrome-plated boron alloy shackle also resist corrosion and have the toughest and most cut-resistant shackle material.

Enclosed-Shackle Resettable Combination Padlocks
With a fully enclosed shackle on the back, these padlocks are more secure than standard padlocks. Also known as hockey puck locks, they prevent bolt-cutting and prying attempts, so they’re often used on transport vans. Set your own combination and change it at any time. Not only is the steel lock body hardened for strength, it’s plated with chrome for added corrosion resistance. A metal cover keeps out water and debris to protect the rolling digits from freezing, corroding, or jamming.
Add an optional hasp for a complete locking system. These hasps consist of two flanges that attach to a door and a frame or to double doors, like those on the back of a transport van. Thread the shackle through the flanges of the hasp to secure them together.
