Ready-to-Use Tension and Compression Force Sensor Kits
With a sensor that’s already calibrated and everything you need to relay data, these kits come ready to operate. Use them to measure forces in equipment and send the data directly to a computer or programmable logic controller (PLC) to monitor, document, and trigger actions in machinery. They’re also used as the foundation within custom-built scales and force gauges, and to measure force in crash tests and other quality control processes. These sensors are also known as load cells.
When choosing a sensor, consider whether you’ll be measuring tension, compression, or both. Select sensors with a capacity rating higher than the greatest load you expect them to receive. They’re designed to briefly handle forces 1.5 times their load capacity to protect from overload. Choose between a rectangle, round, or S-shape sensor to best suit your application.
PC connection kits link to a computer, tablet, or LCD display. All include a calibrated force sensor, a data conversion hub, and data-recording software. The conversion hub turns electrical signals from the sensor into usable force measurements. The software plots and analyzes measurements, so you can track high, low, and average values over time. It can also set off connected alarms or notify you when readings fall outside a set range. Export the data to Microsoft Excel and other analytical software such as MATLAB and LabVIEW. Wired PC connection kits come with a 6-ft. hub-to-PC USB cord. Wireless PC connection kits transmit data over Wi-Fi to your computer from their conversion hub without a cord.
PLC connection kits send an analog signal to your PLC to trigger actions such as diverting items that exceed a certain weight on a conveyor. They include a calibrated sensor and a data conversion hub. They’re not for use with LCD displays.
PLC/PC connection kits combine the trigger functions of a PLC with the tracking and notification features of computer software. They include a calibrated force sensor, a data conversion hub, data-recording software, and a 6-ft. hub-to-USB cord.
IP rated sensors seal out dust. IP66 rated sensors stand up to spraying water. IP67 rated sensors won’t fail if briefly submerged.
Legal-for-trade sensors are NTEP approved for use with equipment that measures materials sold by weight.
Rectangle sensors are also known as single-point or shear beam load cells. They can be used in multiples across surfaces to measure uneven loads. They’re often used in bench-top and floor scales where loads are often unbalanced. They’re also used in packaging, machine bins, conveyors, and chutes.

Round sensors have a low profile to fit in tight-clearance spaces. Those with a threaded through hole are also known as pancake load cells. They can be bolted to surfaces in any orientation and are commonly used to measure clamping forces.

Configurable Tension and Compression Force Sensors
Calibrate these sensors to your desired capacity to measure tension, compression, or both. Also known as load cells, they measure and track the forces of your equipment by converting them into electrical signals. Send these signals to your computer or programmable logic controller (PLC) to monitor, document, and trigger actions in your machinery.
When choosing a sensor, consider whether you’ll be measuring tension, compression, or both. Select sensors with a capacity rating higher than the greatest load you expect them to receive. They’re designed to briefly handle forces 1.5 times their load capacity to protect from overload. Choose between a rectangle, round, or S-shape sensor to best suit your application.
IP-rated sensors seal out dust. IP65 sensors stand up to splashing water. IP66 sensors stand up to spraying water. IP67 sensors won’t fail if briefly submerged.
Legal-for-trade sensors are NTEP approved for use with equipment that measures materials sold by weight.

Rectangle sensors are also known as single-point or shear beam load cells. They can be used in multiples across surfaces to measure uneven loads. They’re often used in bench-top and floor scales where loads are often unbalanced. They’re also used in packaging, machine bins, conveyors, and chutes.

Round sensors have a low profile to fit in tight-clearance spaces. Those with a button are often used to measure weight in packaging machinery and for pressure sensing in medical device prototypes. They can only be used for compression applications.
Those without mounting holes are about as thin as a credit card. To mount, sandwich them between two plates or use a thin layer of adhesive.

Connection hubs combine the measurements of multiple tension and compression force sensors together.
Compression Force Sensors for Tight Spaces
Thinner than a credit card, these force sensors fit into narrow spaces to measure the applied load between two surfaces. While they’re less accurate than larger alternatives such as load cells and handheld force gauges, these will fit almost anywhere. Place them within an industrial press to make sure it’s operating in a safe range, or form them to the contour of a forklift seat to test the concept of adding a smart switch that detects when an operator is sitting and ready to operate the forklift. Sensors should be calibrated before first use. Also known as force sensing resistors.

Kits come with software to analyze data from sensors. Kits with USB-A connection include a hub that plugs into your computer’s USB port. Kits with Wi-Fi connection use a hub that wirelessly connects to a computer or tablet within a sensing distance of 210 feet. The hub’s transmitter is certified 802.11b radio – 802.11b/g/n to meet IEEE standards for compatibility with other devices.
Additional sensors and hubs (both sold separately) expand the connections kits.
To connect 3-pin and 2-pin sensors into hubs with USB connections, adapters (sold separately) are required.
