Panel-Mount Sealed Wet-Location Limit Switches
Sealed actuators prevent these switches from jamming, even when exposed to oil, sand, mud, or ice. They send a signal to your circuit when an object hits the actuator—for instance, a box on a conveyor runs into the switch, stopping the conveyor. They open and close circuits as fast as snap-acting switches, but they have a bigger actuator for large objects. To actuate, they require a push, similar to a button. Rated IP68, they’re protected against dust and temporary submersion.
Switches with a stainless steel housing stand up better to wear and tear and corrosion better than switches with a zinc-plated steel housing.

Mil. Spec. Washdown Snap-Acting Switches
Keep out dirt and moisture—the sealed housing on these switches is watertight and meet MIL-PRF-8805. They’re sized to fit in the tiniest of spaces. To minimize arcing and prevent contacts from sticking, they open and close circuits quickly. They’re often used as door-open indicators on appliances and enclosures or as an internal component in limit, pressure, and temperature switches.
Switches with a plunger actuator require a push to actuate.
Switches with a roller lever actuator allow parts to glide across the actuation surface with less friction than standard levers.

Subminiature Snap-Acting Switches
At least 25% smaller than our Miniature Snap-Acting Switches, these switches are often used to trigger actions from inside a vehicle’s door or an engine compartment. They open and close circuits faster than other switches, preventing contacts from sticking by reducing the time that they're near one another. They also minimize the chance of arcing, so electricity won’t jump across contacts.
Plunger actuator switches send a signal when the actuator is pushed directly downward. They have the smallest actuator of the actuators here, reducing the risk of accidental switching.
Lever actuator switches have a larger surface area than plunger actuator switches and can be pushed down by front-to-back movement, so they require less precision to activate.
Roller lever actuator switches allow parts to glide across the actuation surface with less friction than standard levers. This prevents wear and tear over time.

DC Metallic-Object Proximity Switches
Nano
M8 Plug
Micro
M12 Plug
Also known as inductive proximity switches, these detect metallic objects even if they’re obscured by water, oil, dirt, or a surface finish. Sensing distance is based on the target material. The distance listed is for mild steel. They’re often used with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and produce PNP or NPN signal output. To determine the signal output of a switch you are replacing, use Testers for Proximity and Photoelectric Switches (not included).
Flush switches, also known as embeddable or shielded switches, can be mounted so that the sensor face is level with the surface of any material, including metal. They’re more accurate than projecting switches at close range and can be mounted close together without causing interference. Projecting switches, also known as non-embeddable or unshielded switches, must be mounted with the area around the sensor face free of metal. They have a longer sensing distance than flush switches with the same diameter.
Switches with a plug connect to cables with a socket (sold separately), allowing you to quickly connect and disconnect the switch.
Switches with IO link can be configured remotely when connected to a PLC, a human-machine interface (HMI), or a computer.
IP65 rated switches are protected from washdowns. IP67 and IP68 rated switches are protected from temporary submersion. NEMA 6P rated switches are protected from corrosion and washdowns.

Hazardous Location DC Metallic-Object Proximity Switches
Use these switches to sense objects in volatile areas. Intrinsically safe, they produce a NAMUR signal, which operates at a low current and voltage, so they won’t ignite or create sparks in hazardous locations. They are ATEX and IECEx internationally certified to protect against explosion in environments containing flammable gases and combustible dust. Switches must be connected to the required barriers (sold separately), which reduce the current and voltage coming from your power source. Unlike the switches, however, the barriers must be located in a separate nonhazardous area.
Also known as inductive proximity switches, these switches detect metallic objects—even if they’re obscured by water, oil, dirt, or a surface finish. Send their signal to programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to support automated processes. Switches meet various domestic and international safety standards.

Hazardous Location Slot DC Metallic-Object Proximity Switches
Commonly used to measure the speed of motors and other rotating equipment in the oil and gas industry, chemical plants, and grain mills, these switches detect objects each time they pass through the slot. Switches are intrinsically safe and produce a low-current, low-voltage NAMUR signal, so they won’t ignite or create sparks while being used. ATEX and IECEx certified, they meet international standards to protect against explosion in environments containing flammable gases and combustible dust. Prior to use, these switches must be connected to the required barriers (sold separately), which reduce the current and voltage coming from your power source. Unlike the switches, barriers must be installed in a separate nonhazardous area.
Also known as inductive proximity switches, they sense metallic objects even when they’re obscured by water, oil, dirt, or a surface finish. Send their signal to programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to support automated processes within your system. Switches meet various national and international safety standards, and they’re rated IP67 to protect against dust, washdowns, and temporary submersion.

Hazardous Location Rotatable DC Metallic-Object Proximity Switches
Twist the sensor to detect metallic objects where explosive dust or gas may be present—the sensor rotates for front, side, top, or bottom sensing. These switches are UL and C-UL listed as well as ATEX and IECEx certified for hazardous locations. Their NAMUR signal produces low current and low voltage, so they won’t spark or ignite. You must connect them to a barrier (sold separately), which reduces the current and voltage that enters your hazardous area. Install the barrier in a separate location that doesn’t contain explosive gas or dust.
Because you can rotate their sensor, these switches make good replacements for limit switches with actuators that could break when hit. They’re often known as inductive proximity switches and detect objects even if they’re covered by water, oil, dirt, or a surface finish. Sensing distance is based on the type of material that’s sensed; the distance listed is for mild steel. Send signals from these switches to programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to support automated processes.
These switches have a 4-pole micro M12 plug that connects to cables with a socket (sold separately), so you can quickly connect and disconnect them. You can also check on them from any angle, thanks to LED status indicators on their corners. All are CE marked for safety.
To view switch wiring diagrams, select a part number and click Product Detail.
Flush switches, also called embeddable and shielded switches, are more accurate than projecting switches at close range. They also won’t interfere with each other’s signals when installed close together. Their sensor face mounts evenly with any material, including metal.
Projecting switches, also known as non-embeddable and unshielded switches, sense objects farther away than flush switches. But, the area around the sensor must be metal free.
IP rated, all switches seal out dust and water from high-pressure washdowns. IP67- and IP68-rated switches also withstand some submersion.

Hazardous Location Flat-Body DC Metallic-Object Proximity Switches
Mount these intrinsically safe switches to flat surfaces in volatile areas. Their low-current, low-voltage NAMUR signal means they won’t ignite or create sparks while in use. ATEX and IECEx certified, they meet international standards to protect against explosion where combustible dust and flammable gases are present. Switches must connect to the required barriers (sold separately), which reduce the current and voltage going into the hazardous location. While the switches can safely be used in hazardous areas, the barriers must be installed in a separate nonhazardous area.
Also known as inductive proximity switches, they remotely sense metallic objects even if they’re obscured by water, oil, dirt, or a surface finish. These switches have the same high switching distance for all metals. Because of this, they’re often used for detecting weaker metals, such as tin and aluminum, in the food and beverage industry. The larger the size, the greater the sensing distance. Send their signal to programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to support automated processes within your system. All of these switches are rated IP67, so they stand up to dust and brief submersion. They meet various domestic and international safety standards.

They have a longer sensing distance than flush switches of the same size. They also have a 4-pole Micro M12 plug that connects to cables with a socket (sold separately), letting you quickly connect and disconnect the switch from your equipment.

Hazardous Location Ring DC Metallic-Object Proximity Switches
Often used in the stamping process to count small metallic parts, such as screws, nuts, and washers, these switches detect objects as they pass through the ring via tubing or a funnel. Intrinsically safe, they produce a low-current, low-voltage NAMUR signal, so they won’t ignite or create sparks while in use. Switches meet ATEX international certification to protect against explosion in environments containing flammable gases. Prior to use, switches must be connected to the required barriers (sold separately), which reduce the current and voltage going into the hazardous location. Tilt Switches
Often used as position indicators, pump level controls, and machine limit switches, these switches actuate when tilted to a certain angle. They mount horizontally and activate when tilted downward, and deactivate when tilted up. Differential angle is the total angle from the point of activation to the point of deactivation. All combine electromechanical and solid state technologies for reliability and long life.

Snap-Action Thermostats
Also known as snap discs, these thermostats switch on cooling systems or switch off heating systems when equipment gets too hot. Each thermostat has five temperature options for switch activation; choose the one that best suits your application.
Unlike heat-actuated switches, these thermostats reset automatically, saving you the effort of replacing a melted fusible link. To calculate their reset temperature, subtract their differential temperature from the temperature you set them at. For example, a thermostat set at 100° F with a 20° F differential will reset at 80° F.
Normally closed thermostats are also known as high-limit thermostats—they turn off at a set temperature. They’re often used with electric water heaters, stoves, and furnaces.
