About Exhaust Fans
More
About Sound Levels
Measured in decibels (dB), volume ratings indicate how much noise equipment makes. Some common volume levels include a whisper @ 20 dB, a refrigerator @ 40 dB, a conversation @ 60 dB, and a light machine shop @ 90 dB. OSHA recommends hearing protection for exposure to 80 dB and greater.
Belt-Drive Wall-Mount Exhaust Fans with Louvers
These fans come complete with a movable-blade louver. The louvers are gravity operated so they open only when air flows through them, which prevents backdrafts. Belt-drive fans are quieter and have a longer life span than direct-drive fans because components can be replaced if worn or damaged. Use these fans to draw stagnant and humid air out of a room or area.
Fans with an open dripproof motor enclosure are for relatively clean, dry, indoor locations. Fans with a totally enclosed motor enclosure can be used in dirty, dusty, and damp environments.

Exterior-Wall-Mount Exhaust Fans
Good when you don't have room to mount an exhaust fan inside your facility, these fans attach to openings in outside walls. Use them to draw stagnant and humid air out of a room or area. Belt-drive fans are quieter than direct-drive fans. They also last longer because their components can be replaced if damaged. Fans with a totally enclosed motor enclosure can be used in dirty, dusty, and damp environments. They mount through the wall, so you'll need to cut a hole on the inside of the wall as well.
Note: Airflow depends on the resistance created by louvers, filters, and ductwork in your system. This resistance, known as static pressure (SP), is measured in inches of water.

Belt-Drive Downdraft Roof-Mount Exhaust Fans
Belt-drive fans are quieter and have a longer life span than direct-drive fans because components can be replaced if worn or damaged. More economical than upblast roof-mount exhaust fans, these draw stagnant and humid air out through your roof and then direct it back toward the roof.
Note: Airflow depends on the resistance created by ductwork. This resistance, known as static pressure (SP), is measured in inches of water.

Belt-Drive Duct Fans
Belt-drive fans are quieter and have a longer life span than direct-drive fans because components can be replaced if worn or damaged. Also known as axial duct fans, these install inline in ductwork for use as an exhaust, supply, or booster fan. All fans have a totally enclosed motor enclosure, which can be used in dirty, dusty, and damp environments.

Belt-Drive Hazardous Location Duct Fans
These fans have an explosion-proof motor that is rated for hazardous environments. All are belt-drive fans that are quieter and have a longer life span than direct-drive fans because components can be replaced if worn or damaged. They install inline in ductwork for use as an exhaust, supply, or booster fan. Fans rated IP44 have a motor enclosure that's rated for protection in damp environments. Fans rated IP56 have a motor enclosure that’s rated for protection in damp, dusty, and washdown environments. UL and CSA standards apply to the motor.
Note: Airflow depends on the resistance created by ductwork. This resistance, known as static pressure (SP), is measured in inches of water.
