Our basic drill bit material is also the most versatile. These jobbers' bits have the balance of rigidity and length needed for most applications.
Black Oxide—The dark finish increases wear resistance and reduces friction to improve chip flow, so these bits can last 50% longer than uncoated bits.
Titanium Nitride (TiN) Coated—Drill at higher speeds and last longer than uncoated and oxide-coated bits, especially on tough materials like hardened steel and nickel.
Titanium Aluminum Nitride (TiAlN) Coated—The hardest and most wear-resistant coating, especially at high temperatures. These bits are best for hard and abrasive materials, such as iron and titanium.
Uncoated—The most economical option, uncoated bits perform best when used on low-carbon steel and aluminum. Polished to reduce friction, they're also known as bright finish bits.
Round Shank—The most common shank type. These fit in the chuck of drill presses and portable drills.
Standard Point—Good for general purpose drilling. You’ll need to make a pilot hole to center the bit.
Split Point—Starts cutting on contact so you don’t need a pilot hole. The point also keeps the bit centered for straight and accurate holes, even with a portable drill.

Our shortest high-speed steel bits, these are the most rigid for drilling the straightest holes. They're also good for tight spaces where longer bits can't fit. Also known as screw-machine and stub-length bits.

    Split

Shorter than jobbers' length, these basic high-speed steel bits are more rigid for less wobble when drilling hard material. They're slightly longer than short-length bits, so they can drill deeper holes. Also known as mechanics' bits.
Gold Oxide—Like black oxide, this finish adds wear resistance and reduces friction for improved chip flow. Because it’s less prone to flaking off, it offers better rust protection when bits aren't in use.
Round Shank—The most common shank type. These fit in the chuck of drill presses and portable drills.
3-Flat Shank—Three flat sides on the shank prevent the bit from slipping in the chuck of a drill press or portable drill.
Split Point—Starts cutting on contact so you don’t need a pilot hole. The point also keeps the bit centered for straight and accurate holes, even with a portable drill.

    Carbide Jobbers' Length
Image of Product. Round Shank. Front orientation. Drill Bits. Drill Bits, Jobbers' Length, Spiral Flute, Round Shank.

    Round Shank

The hardest and most wear-resistant drill bits you can buy in a length that's rigid enough for most applications. These bits stay sharp at high temperatures and faster speeds for the best performance on hard and difficult-to-machine materials. They last 10 to 20 times longer than their closest alternative, cobalt steel. Carbide can be brittle, however, so these bits require a rigid machine tool holder to prevent breakage and should not be used in hand drilling applications.
Titanium Nitride (TiN) Coated—Drill at higher speeds and last longer than uncoated bits, especially on materials like hardened steel, iron, and stainless steel.
Titanium Aluminum Nitride (TiAlN) Coated—No drill bits last longer. These are the best for high-speed, high-temperature drilling of very hard and abrasive materials, including titanium and fiberglass.
Uncoated—Excellent for a range of metals, they perform best when used on steel, aluminum, brass, and bronze.
Round Shank—The most common shank type fits in a drill press chuck.
Four-Facet Point—The most accurate point style, it centers the bit without a pilot hole and keeps the bit stable while drilling hard metals.

They stay sharp at high temperatures and faster speeds for the straightest holes in hard and difficult-to-machine materials. The toughness and wear resistance of cobalt steel in a length that's rigid enough for most applications. Cobalt lasts at least twice as long as high-speed steel. It can also run up to 25% faster at higher temperatures without damaging the bit on hard materials such as nickel.
Black Oxide—The dark finish increases wear resistance and reduces friction to improve chip flow, so these bits can last 50% longer than uncoated bits.
Round Shank—The most common shank type. These fit in the chuck of drill presses and portable drills.
Split Point—Starts cutting on contact so you don’t need a pilot hole. The point also keeps the bit centered for straight and accurate holes, even with a portable drill.

The hardest and most wear-resistant drill bits you can buy in a length that's rigid enough for most applications. These bits stay sharp at high temperatures and faster speeds for the best performance on hard and difficult-to-machine materials. Carbide can be brittle, however, so these bits require a rigid machine tool holder to prevent breakage and should not be used in hand drilling applications.

    Left-Hand Drill Bits

With flutes that spiral in the opposite direction of other bits, these are primarily used to remove stripped screws. Choose a bit that’s slightly smaller than the diameter of the screw’s head. Set your power tool to rotate in reverse. Slowly drill in the center of the screw head, maintaining constant pressure. As the bit penetrates, it will catch onto the screw and reverse it out of the hole. If the screw is badly stripped, you might need to punch a starter hole. Also known as reverse-flute bits.

Drill Bits for Masonry and Concrete

Crush rather than cut material so bits don’t jam or overheat while drilling masonry and concrete. The ultra-hard carbide tip breaks masonry into pieces and the widely spaced flutes channel them out of the hole. These bits stay sharp, resisting wear and heat that will dull or break other bits.

Bore a variety of hole sizes with one bit—just slide the blade to the desired diameter and then tighten the screw. These have two sharp edges for faster cuts than fluted bits and won't cause the surface of the material to splinter. A centering point keeps them stable while drilling soft and hard woods such as pine, plywood, and oak. Like standard flat-blade bits, these drill rough holes for wire and pipe but should be used in a drill press rather than a hand-held tool. Also known as spade bits.
