Our basic drill bit material is also the most versatile. These jobbers' bits have the balance of rigidity and length needed for most applications.
Black Oxide—The dark finish increases wear resistance and reduces friction to improve chip flow, so these bits can last 50% longer than uncoated bits.
Morse Taper Shank—Insert directly into the tapered spindle on machines such as drill presses and lathes.
Standard Point—Good for general purpose drilling. You’ll need to make a pilot hole to center the bit.

    Reduced-Shank Drill Bits

Cut large holes with drill presses and portable drills that have a standard-size chuck. The shank on these bits has a smaller diameter than the cutting tip. Also known as Silver and Deming bits.

Fast-Cutting Smooth-Finish Drill Bits for Wood

Image of Product. Front orientation. Drill Bits. Fast-Cutting Smooth-Finish Drill Bits for Wood, Round Shank.

    Round Shank

Not only do these bits bore holes faster than standard smooth-finish bits, they create less friction and heat buildup to last longer. The spurred teeth have a long life, but they're less effective at guiding the bit so cuts on angled and overlapping holes tend to be rougher. Also known as multispur bits.
Round Shank—Fit in the chuck of drill presses and portable drills.

    Smooth-Finish Drill Bits for Wood

Image of Product. Front orientation. Drill Bits. Smooth-Finish Drill Bits for Wood, Round Shank.

    Round Shank

Multiple teeth cut away large amounts of material to bore clean, flat-bottom holes in wood. The center guide point keeps the bit stable and centered for drilling straight, angled, and overlapping holes, like those used create joints. Also known as Forstner bits.
Round Shank—Fit in the chuck of drill presses and portable drills.
Uncoated Carbide-Tipped Steel—Stay sharp longer than tool steel bits, so they're better on tough and abrasive materials such as plywood and hard woods.
