About Cam Latches and Locks

Washdown Slotted-Drive Cam Locks
Help keep your sealed enclosure's contents safe from dust and water damage—these locks help maintain an enclosure's IP or NEMA rating for washdowns. All open with a slotted screwdriver, so they’re good for areas where you don’t want a complicated keying system.
Locks with a fixed latching distance are best when you know the precise distance you need. Since you won’t have to adjust the cam into position, these are faster to install than those with an adjustable latching distance. Locks with multiple latching distances include multiple cams, so you can change the fixed latching distance.
Stainless steel and plastic locks are more corrosion resistant than zinc locks. They won’t rust in areas that are constantly exposed to moisture. Plastic locks are also nonconductive and lighter in weight. However, they’re easier to drill into or tamper with than the metal locks.
Locks with a pull tab make it easier to open doors than locks without a tab.

Open-Indicating Tight-Hold Slotted-Drive Cam Locks
The face of these locks has a red indicator that is visible when unlocked and hidden when locked. Also known as compression cam locks, they create a tighter hold than standard cam locks in high-vibration areas. Turn the head a quarter-turn to latch, then another quarter-turn to draw the cam firmly against the door or drawer surface. The second turn creates compression, which is ideal for enclosures with a seal and reduces rattling from vibration. These locks open with a slotted screwdriver, so they’re great for a facility where you don’t want a complicated keying system. Made from stainless steel, they resist corrosion when exposed to constant moisture. All come with multiple cams to accommodate different latching distances.
Locks with a fixed latching distance are best when you know the precise distance you need. Since you won’t have to adjust the cam into position, these are faster to install than those with an adjustable latching distance.
Locks with an adjustable latching distance are best for installations where precise distances are unknown. Adjust the position of the cam before you begin to install them. They project further into the enclosure than those with a fixed distance.

Tight-Hold Square-Drive Cam Locks
Also known as compression cam locks, these locks create a tighter hold than a traditional cam lock, making them useful for doors that have a seal. Turn the head a quarter turn to lock, then turn it another quarter turn to create compression and minimize rattling from vibration.
All of these locks open with a square key, so they're more secure than locks that open with a hex or slotted driver yet still match a common keying system for industrial enclosures and other machinery. They have a concealed design to stop others from tampering with them using pliers.
Locks with a fixed latching distance are best when you know the precise distance you need. Since you won’t have to adjust the cam into position, these are faster to install than those with an adjustable latching distance. Those with straight and offset cams include multiple cams, so you can change the fixed latching distance.
IP or NEMA-rated locks have a seal or gasket that helps keep dust and water from entering the lock. This helps you maintain your sealed enclosure's IP or NEMA rating.

Open-Indicating Tight-Hold Square-Drive Cam Locks
Quickly spot if these locks are open—a red indicator appears on the lock face or a spring-loaded cover pops up when they’re unlocked. Also known as compression cam locks, these locks create a tighter hold than a traditional cam lock, making them useful for doors that have a seal. Turn the head a quarter turn to lock, then turn it another quarter turn to create compression and minimize rattling from vibration. A gasket helps keep dust and water from washdowns or brief submersions from entering through the lock. This helps you maintain your sealed enclosure's IP or NEMA rating.
These locks open with a square key, so they're more secure than locks that open with a hex or slotted driver yet still match a common keying system for industrial enclosures and other machinery. They have a concealed design to stop others from tampering with them using pliers.
Locks with a fixed latching distance are best when you know the precise distance you need. Since you won’t have to adjust the cam into position, these are faster to install than those with an adjustable latching distance. All include multiple cams, so you can change the fixed latching distance.
Locks with an adjustable latching distance handle a wide range of latching distances, so they’re best for tasks when precise distances are unknown. Adjust the position of the cam before you begin to install them. They project further into the enclosure than those with a fixed latching distance.
Use stainless steel locks in areas that are constantly exposed to moisture since they resist corrosion better than zinc locks.

Open-Indicating Tight-Hold Triangle-Drive Cam Locks
The spring-loaded cover pops up when these locks are open, so you’re able to see from a distance when they're unlocked. When shut, the cover keeps water and dirt from getting inside the lock cylinder to prevent damage. Also known as compression cam locks, they create a tighter hold than standard cam locks in high-vibration environments. Turn the head a quarter-turn to latch, then another quarter-turn to draw the cam firmly against the door. The second turn creates compression, which is ideal for enclosures with a seal and reduces rattling from vibration. They open with a triangle key (sold separately), so they match a keying system that's common for industrial enclosures and other machinery but are more secure than locks that open with a hex or slotted driver. Their concealed design stops others from tampering with them using pliers.
Locks with a fixed latching distance are best when you know the precise distance you need. Since you won’t have to adjust the cam into position, these are faster to install than those with an adjustable latching distance.
When installed in a sealed enclosure, these locks help maintain your enclosure's IP or NEMA rating. They all seal out dust and dirt but have various levels of water protection. IP65 locks help seal out water from low-pressure washdowns. IP67 locks help seal out water from temporary submersion.

High-Pressure Washdown Tight-Hold Triangle-Drive Cam Locks
A seal helps keep high-pressure, high-temperature washdowns and dust from entering through the lock. This helps you maintain an IP69K rating on sealed enclosures that are often used in food processing plants. Also known as compression cam locks, these locks create a tighter hold than a traditional cam lock, making them useful for doors that have a seal. Turn the head a quarter turn to lock, then turn it another quarter turn to create compression and minimize rattling from vibration.
These locks open with a triangle key (sold separately), so they're more secure than locks that open with a hex or slotted driver yet still match a common keying system for industrial enclosures and other machinery.
They project further into the enclosure than those with a fixed distance.
Use stainless steel locks in areas that are constantly exposed to moisture since they resist corrosion better than zinc locks.

High-Pressure Washdown Two-Way-Drive Cam Locks
An O-ring keeps water from entering through the lock during high-pressure, high-temperature washdowns. This helps you maintain an IP69K rating on sealed enclosures, such as those found in food processing plants. Open these locks with a two-way key (sold separately). Often called a double-bit key, it matches a keying system that’s common for industrial enclosures and other machinery but is more secure than a hex key or screwdriver. These locks also have a flat, concealed design that stops others from tampering with them using pliers.
To accommodate different latching distances, these locks come with three cams. Each cam has a fixed latching distance. Since you won’t have to adjust the cams into position, they’re quick to install. The cam rotates 90° to secure your enclosure, so these locks are also known as quarter-turn locks.
Stainless steel and plastic locks are more corrosion resistant than zinc locks. Plastic locks are the lightest in weight and do not conduct electricity. However, they’re easier to drill into compared to metal locks.

Tight-Hold Knob Cam Latches
The knob on these latches is easy to grip and less likely to snag straps or clothing than T- or L-handle latches. Also known as compression cam latches, these latches create a tighter hold than a traditional cam latch, so they’re useful for doors with a seal. Turn the head a quarter turn to latch, then another quarter turn to create compression and minimize rattling from vibration. A seal helps keep dust and water from washdowns or brief submersion from entering through the latch. This helps you maintain your sealed enclosure's IP rating. Made from stainless steel, they resist corrosion in areas with constant exposure to moisture.
Latches with a fixed latching distance are best when you know the precise distance you need. Since you won’t have to adjust the cam into position, these are faster to install than those with an adjustable latching distance.

Washdown Wing-Handle Padlockable Cam Latches
A gasket helps keep dust and water from washdowns or brief submersions from entering through the latch. This helps you maintain your sealed enclosure's IP or NEMA rating. It’s harder to snag straps and other items on these wing-handle latches than on T- or L-handle latches. They have a cam that rotates to secure your enclosure.
These latches include multiple cams, so you can change their fixed latching distance. Since you won’t have to adjust the cams into position, these latches are faster to install than those with an adjustable latching distance.
Use stainless steel latches in areas that are constantly exposed to moisture since they resist corrosion better than zinc latches.
