About Cam Latches and Locks

Washdown Slotted-Drive Cam Locks
Help keep your sealed enclosure's contents safe from dust and water damage—these locks help maintain an enclosure's IP or NEMA rating for washdowns. All open with a slotted screwdriver, so they’re good for areas where you don’t want a complicated keying system.
Locks with a fixed latching distance are best when you know the precise distance you need. Since you won’t have to adjust the cam into position, these are faster to install than those with an adjustable latching distance. Locks with multiple latching distances include multiple cams, so you can change the fixed latching distance.
Stainless steel and plastic locks are more corrosion resistant than zinc locks. They won’t rust in areas that are constantly exposed to moisture. Plastic locks are also nonconductive and lighter in weight. However, they’re easier to drill into or tamper with than the metal locks.
Locks that meet EN 45545 adhere to strict standards for flammability.
IP69K rated locks help your enclosure stand up against high-temperature, high-pressure washdowns.

High-Pressure Washdown Tight-Hold Square-Drive Cam Locks
A gasket helps keep high-pressure, high-temperature washdowns and dust from entering through the lock. This helps you maintain an IP69K rating on sealed enclosures. Also known as compression cam locks, these locks create a tighter hold than a traditional cam lock, making them useful for doors that have a seal. Turn the head a quarter turn to lock, then turn it another quarter turn to create compression and minimize rattling from vibration. All of these locks open with a square key, so they're more secure than locks that open with a hex or slotted driver yet still match a common keying system for industrial enclosures and other machinery.
Locks that turn clockwise to open have a concealed design to stop others from tampering with them using pliers. The square key is sold separately.
Locks that turn counterclockwise to open have a smooth finish and round edges, so they’re easier to clean than those that turn clockwise. However, they are less secure than those that turn clockwise because the square sticking out from the lock is easier to tamper with using pliers. The square key is included.
Locks with a fixed latching distance are best when you know the precise distance you need. Since you won’t have to adjust the cam into position, these are faster to install than those with an adjustable latching distance. All include multiple cams, so you can change the fixed latching distance.
Locks with an adjustable latching distance handle a wide range of latching distances, so they’re best for tasks when precise distances are unknown. Adjust the position of the cam before you begin to install them. They project further into the enclosure than those with a fixed distance.
Use stainless steel locks in areas that are constantly exposed to moisture since they resist corrosion better than zinc locks.
For locks with mounting holes, the installation hole can be made with a round hole instead of the irregularly shaped standard cam hole. This is especially helpful if the material of the door is difficult to cut or part of an existing structure. Push the lock into your through hole and secure it with fasteners so it won’t rotate as you turn the head. These locks are flush with the surface, so you won’t bump into or catch clothes on them.

High-Pressure Washdown Hex-Drive Cam Locks
A gasket stops water from getting past these locks during high-pressure, high-temperature washdowns common in food processing plants. This helps you maintain a sealed enclosure's IP rating. Also known as quarter-turn locks, these locks rotate a cam 90° to secure your door or drawer. They lock with a hex key, so they’re great if you don’t want to keep a complicated keying system. Made of stainless steel, they resist corrosion, even when exposed to constant moisture. These locks come with multiple cams to accommodate different latching distances.

High-Pressure Washdown Two-Way-Drive Cam Locks
An O-ring keeps water from entering through the lock during high-pressure, high-temperature washdowns. This helps you maintain an IP69K rating on sealed enclosures, such as those found in food processing plants. Open these locks with a two-way key (sold separately). Often called a double-bit key, it matches a keying system that’s common for industrial enclosures and other machinery but is more secure than a hex key or screwdriver. These locks also have a flat, concealed design that stops others from tampering with them using pliers.
To accommodate different latching distances, these locks come with three cams. Each cam has a fixed latching distance. Since you won’t have to adjust the cams into position, they’re quick to install. The cam rotates 90° to secure your enclosure, so these locks are also known as quarter-turn locks.
Stainless steel and plastic locks are more corrosion resistant than zinc locks. Plastic locks are the lightest in weight and do not conduct electricity. However, they’re easier to drill into compared to metal locks.

High-Pressure Washdown Tight-Hold Two-Way-Drive Cam Locks
An O-ring keeps water from entering through the lock during high-pressure, high-temperature washdowns. This helps you maintain an IP69K rating on sealed enclosures, such as those in food processing plants. Also known as compression cam locks, these locks create a tighter hold than traditional cam locks, making them useful for doors that have a seal. Turn the head a quarter turn to lock, then turn it another quarter turn to create compression and minimize rattling from vibration.
These locks open with a two-way key (sold separately). Also known as a double-bit key, it matches a keying system that’s common for industrial enclosures and other machinery but is more secure than a hex key or screwdriver. These locks also have a flat, concealed design that stops others from tampering with them using pliers.
Locks with a fixed latching distance are best when you know the precise distance you need. Since you won’t have to adjust the cam into position, they’re faster to install than locks with an adjustable latching distance. To accommodate different latching distances, they come with multiple cams.
Locks with an adjustable latching distance handle a wide range of latching distances, so they’re best for tasks when precise distances are unknown. Adjust the position of the cam before installing. They project further into the enclosure than those with a fixed latching distance.
Stainless steel locks resist corrosion better than zinc locks. They won’t rust in areas constantly exposed to moisture.
For locks with mounting holes, the installation hole can be made with a round hole instead of the irregularly shaped standard cam hole. This is especially helpful if the material of the door is difficult to cut or part of an existing structure. These locks are flush with the surface, so you won’t bump into or catch clothes on them.

Washdown Wing-Handle Cam Latches
A gasket helps keep dust and water from washdowns from entering through the latch. This helps you maintain your sealed enclosure's IP or NEMA rating. It’s harder to snag straps and other items on these wing-handle latches than on T- or L-handle latches. They have a cam that rotates to secure your enclosure.
These latches have one or more cams that each have a fixed latching distance. Since you won’t have to adjust the cam into position, these are faster to install than those with an adjustable latching distance.
Stainless steel and plastic latches are more corrosion resistant than zinc latches. They can be used in areas that are constantly exposed to moisture. The plastic latches are also nonconductive and lighter in weight. However, they’re easier to drill into or tamper with than the metal latches.
