TEFC (totally enclosed fan cooled) enclosures protect against dirt, dust, and moisture. An external fan blows air on the enclosure to keep it cool. TENV (totally enclosed non-ventilated) enclosures are similar to TEFC enclosures, except they don’t have a fan. They rely on air circulation from the motion of the motor for cooling.

Motors rated IP66 have a labyrinth drain plug that keeps water out while letting condensation escape. Motors rated IP69K protect against dust, debris, and high-temperature washdowns.
